Beautiful Hanging Lake

Ever since we've lived in Grand Junction, we've always wanted to visit Hanging Lake.  The name just sounds cool, and we see the signs for it on our way to Denver.  It is in gorgeous Glenwood Canyon, so it has to be amazing.  The day after school was out, we finally made our way there to see what Hanging Lake was all about.  It was amazing.  It reminded us very much of hiking in the Wasatch Mountains.  It is somewhat of a hard hike, but the kids were troopers and marched right up the mountain 1.2 miles to the top to see Hanging Lake.

Here it is!  It is absolutely beautiful.  I don't have a picture to show why it is called Hanging Lake.  But it is near the top of a mountain, but sitting in the canyon still.  On one edge of the lake, there is just dirt and logs, etc that are acting as a dam to hold it up there.

This is the waterfall just right above the lake about 30 yards up that feeds into Hanging Lake.  From the lake you can't see it, but you can definitely hear the roar of it.  Its called Spouting Rock, as water is coming not only from off the top of the mountain, but out of the middle of the mountain in several spots.  Very cool!
